POSTURAL PAIN
YOUR DESK JOB
ISN'T A LIFE SENTENCE.
ISN'T A LIFE SENTENCE.
The neck stiffness, the upper back ache, the headaches that build through the day. Postural pain is almost entirely mechanical — a predictable result of sustained loading in positions the body wasn't designed to hold for hours. It's also almost entirely reversible.

Understanding the Condition
WHAT IS POSTURAL PAIN?
Postural pain develops when sustained positions — desk work, driving, phone use — create chronic overload of specific structures: the cervical discs and facets, the thoracic extensors, the sub-occipital muscles, and the shoulder girdle. Over time, adaptive shortening and weakness develop and the pain becomes persistent even outside of the provocative position.
Cervical Postural Syndrome: Forward head posture loading the cervical discs and facets. Produces neck pain, stiffness, and often cervicogenic headaches. Responds rapidly to manual therapy and postural correction.
Thoracic Kyphosis Pain: Rounded upper back from desk work and screen use. Mid-back ache, shoulder tightness, rib restriction. Thoracic mobilization is remarkably effective.
Lower Crossed Syndrome: Hip flexor tightness and glute inhibition from prolonged sitting, producing chronic lumbar extension loading and low back pain.
Tech Neck: Forward head posture from phone and screen use — increasingly common in younger patients. Creates disc loading and cervical muscle overload that is fully reversible with PT.
Treatment Approach
HOW WE TREAT IT
Postural pain responds quickly to the right treatment because the structural changes are adaptive, not degenerative. We restore mobility, correct the loading pattern, and build the strength to maintain it.
01
Restore Mobility & Reduce Pain
Manual therapy to the cervical and thoracic spine, rib mobilization, and soft tissue work that provides rapid pain relief and restores range of motion.
02
Postural Correction & Strength
Deep cervical flexor activation, thoracic extensor and scapular strengthening — the muscles that hold the corrected position without effort.
03
Workstation & Habit Correction
Screen height, chair setup, movement breaks, and the daily habits that prevent the load from accumulating again once symptoms resolve.
Typical TimelineMost patients see significant improvement in 3–6 weeks.
