state of the art in regenerative medicine
Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?
Stemwave is a state of the art treatment in the field of Regenerative Medicine. It is the safest, most cost effective form of Regenerative Medicine.
It emits an energetic pulse into an area of injury or degeneration. The characteristics of this particular type of energy wave cause a cellular process to start that reduces pain and inflammation immediately while starting to recruit Mesenchymal Stem Cells for long term, regenerative healing.
There are only two units in the world of Shockwave Therapy that emit the type of wave that causes this effect, and this unit is one of them!

Who is Stemwave Shockwave Therapy For?
Stemwave therapy is for you if you have:
- Chronic pain in muscles or joints (e.g., back pain, shoulder pain, tendinitis)
- Acute Injury Recovery, particularly after sports or physical activity (ankle sprains, muscle strains, etc.)
- Speeds Up Healing After Surgery (e.g., rotator cuff surgery, knee surgery)
- Plantar Fasciitis or heel pain
- Chronic Tendon Pain – Calcified or Calcific Tendinopathy that haven’t healed with traditional treatments
- Stress Fractures or Broken Bones – this device speeds up healing time, making your bones fuse together faster
- Scar Tissue or Fascia Restrictions that affect movement
- Non-invasive treatment options that don’t involve surgery or medication
If any of these apply to you, Stemwave Shockwave Therapy could be the solution you’re looking for.
What to Expect During Treatment...
Stemwave treatments are simple and comfortable. Here’s what you can expect:
- Gel Application: A gel is applied to the treatment area to ensure smooth contact.
- Shockwave Delivery: The Stemwave applicator is gently applied to the area, delivering targeted acoustic waves.
- No Anesthesia or Numbing: The treatment is non-invasive, and anesthesia isn’t required.
- Fast Sessions: Each treatment lasts 10-15 minutes.
Typically, 8-12 sessions are recommended for optimal results, with many patients experiencing significant improvements within the first two weeks of treatment.

"Sounds Interesting, But What Does It Actually Do?"
*Warning* this is going to get nerdy for a second. If you aren’t interested in learning the science behind WHY it works, skip past this section.
To understand why the unit we have is different from many other units that are marketed as “Shockwave Therapy,” you need to understand this.
Our immune systems have what are called M1 and M2 macrophages. M1 macrophages cause inflammation after an injury, M2 macrophages get rid of inflammation. M2 macrophages are like little pac-men that eat up inflammation in your tissues and joints.
In chronic inflammation or delayed healing, M1 macrophages remain active for too long, which impedes tissue repair, causes lingering and chronic pain, and can lead to fibrosis or other complications.
The specific characteristics of the shockwave our unit emits cause your body, at a cellular level, to switch the M1 macrophages contacted by the focused shockwave into M2 macrophages. This process is well documented in research.
Another effect this has on your body is what’s called “Angiogenisis.” This is actually the creation of NEW blood pathways to, through, or around the affected tissue. It doesn’t just “increase blood flow,” it actually gets your body to create new sources of bloodflow to tissues that may not be healing due to a lack of nutrient dense blood.
Angiogensis starts the process of recruiting mesenchymal Sten Cells. When it comes to regenerating degenerated tissue, these are two necessary parts of the process. This is what Shockwave such an exciting addition to our practice.
However, not everything labeled “Shockwave Therapy,” has these same effects. Most of these other machines do not produce the M1 to M2 macrophage transition, they don’t cause angiogensis, and they don’t recruit stem cells to the injured area. It’s very important to know what type of Shockwave you’re working with to make sure you get these effects.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Compare to PRP or Stem Cell Injections
Aside from a huge difference in cost (our Stemwave Packages are usually about 60% – 90% cheaper than PRP and Stem Cell Injections), there are other benefits as well!
- No Downtime - return to activity same day
- Quick Results - patients often see improvements within the first week!
- Non-Invase - No needles, no incisions or anesthesia, no downtime
See below for more info!
Shockwave Therapy vs.
PRP or Stem Cell Injections
We recommend Shockwave Therapy to our patients over PRP Injections or Stem Cell Injections.
Here’s why:
Non-Invasive
Shockwave Therapy: Completely non-invasive; uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing. No needles, incisions, or downtime.
PRP/Stem Cell Injections: Invasive; require drawing blood (PRP) or harvesting stem cells (usually from bone marrow or fat), followed by injection into the target area.
No Downtime
Shockwave Therapy: Patients resume normal activities immediately after treatment. There’s no need for recovery or rest.
PRP/Stem Cell Injections: May require a recovery period due to inflammation, swelling, or soreness from the injection.
Cost-Effectiveness
Shockwave Therapy: Significantly more affordable, no lab or surgical fees, no down-the-road costs.
PRP/Stem Cell Injections: Significantly more expensive due to lab processing, advanced equipment, and sometimes anesthesia for stem cell harvesting.
Quick Results
Shockwave Therapy: Most patients experience noticeable improvements after 1-3 sessions, with full benefits over 2-3 months.
PRP/Stem Cell Injections: Benefits, if you notice them at all, can take many months to manifest as tissues regenerate.
Frequently Asked Questions (part 1)
Will I need to stop working out or modify my activity?
No, shockwave therapy is designed to help you stay active. You may be advised to avoid high-intensity activities immediately after a session, but most patients can maintain their usual routine.
How quickly will I see results?
Some patients notice improvement after the first session. Most experience significant pain reduction and functional improvements within the first two weeks. Full benefits often continue to develop overtim
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as uncomfortable but tolerable, similar to a deep tissue massage. The intensity can be adjusted to your comfort level, and discomfort usually subsides after the session.
Is Stemwave covered by my insurance?
Most patients describe the sensation as uncomfortable but tolerable, similar to a deep tissue massage. The intensity can be adjusted to your comfort level, and discomfort usually subsides after the session.

Other Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need?
Typically, patients see significant improvement after 3-6 sessions. However, the research states that 10 sessions are recommended to produce the full regenerative effect. The regenerative component of this treatment continues even after the 10th session is completed- even up to 6 months later the regeneration is still happening!
"Stemwave vs Softwave vs Shockwave" ???
Glad you asked, this can be confusing. Stemwave and Softwave are both companies that manufacture Shockwave Therapy machines.
"What is the difference between Stemwave and Softwave?"
Softwave has an “unfocused beam.” This makes it a better option for Erectile Dysfunction treatment, skin conditions like psoriasis, and various other health conditions. The unfocused beam makes it more widely applicable across many medical conditions. Stemwave has a “focused beam,” making its application more limited.
"If that's the case, why did your clinic decide to purchase a Stemwave unit and not Softwave?"
Stemwave is designed to treat one type of issue: Musculo-skeletal conditions. This is the one type of condition that our clinic treats. The “focused beam” on the applicator head focuses all the energy of the shockwave into a very specific area of the tissue we are targeting, providing better outcomes for chronic tendinitis, degenerative joint conditions, muscle tears, acute ankle sprains, etc.
